Senior Communications Officer
The Senior Communications Officer will play a key role in delivering high-quality, engaging and effective communications to support One Care’s strategic priorities across BNSSG. The role sits within a small but ambitious communications team, which is expanding to meet organisational priorities, reflecting a growing enthusiasm and recognition of the importance of high quality, impactful communications at senior levels of the organisation.
This is a varied and fast-paced role requiring an experienced communications all-rounder who can write and edit compelling content, manage multiple communication channels, and produce high-quality digital assets. Writing regular newsletters and bulletins is a core requirement of the role, so applicants must have exceptional attention to detail and excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
The postholder will oversee the day-to-day delivery of One Care’s regular communications, including leading the operational management of the organisation’s social media channels and working closely with internal teams and system partners to ensure clear, consistent and impactful messaging across both One Care and practice channels. You will support organisational priorities by ensuring clear, accessible and engaging communications for a wide range of audiences across the BNSSG healthcare system, while continuously seeking new and innovative ways to improve how One Care communicates.
The role will suit someone with an eye for a great story; if you thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy juggling competing priorities and are proactive, creative, and keen to continuously learn, then we’d love to hear from you. Strong digital content creation abilities and confident stakeholder engagement skills are also advantageous.
The position is offered on a 0.8 FTE basis, with hours able to be worked flexibly (including during school hours) whilst ensuring organisational deadlines and priorities are met. Previous experience working in communications roles in the NHS, or other large, complex organisations, is advantageous but not essential.

- Plan and deliver multi-channel communications activity that supports One Care’s strategic goals, organisational priorities and contractual responsibilities.
- Create and maintain high-quality written, visual and digital content across websites, newsletters, social media, email platforms, intranet and press communications.
- Develop compelling stories, case studies, interviews, articles, videos and other content by working with services, GP practices and system partners.
- Work closely with stakeholders, including GP practices, system partners and senior leaders, to gather insight, shape messaging and translate complex or sensitive information into clear, accessible communications.
- Support media and reputation management by drafting press releases, reactive statements, background briefings and key messages for proactive opportunities.
- Monitor and evaluate communications activity, using insights and analytics to improve performance, reach and impact.
- Ensure all communications are accessible, inclusive, brand-consistent and aligned with organisational values and NHS standards where appropriate.
- Lead the day-to-day management of One Care’s social media channels and identify opportunities to strengthen presence across existing and emerging digital platforms.
- Create professional digital assets, including social media posts, graphics, photography, short-form video and content for member practices’ digital channels and display screens, tailored to audience needs.
- Support the delivery of communications plans and campaigns by developing detailed content schedules, coordinating timelines, managing social media calendars and ensuring consistent messaging across channels.
Skills and experience
- Educated to degree level in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or a related field, or able to demonstrate equivalent professional experience.

- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with experience producing high-quality content for a range of audiences and channels.
- Experience managing content across websites, email platforms, social media and other digital channels.
- Ability to create video and static digital content, with confidence using design tools such as Canva.
- Demonstrable experience of building effective stakeholder relationships and supporting campaigns, events and communications activity in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in media relations, NHS or primary care settings, content management systems, analytics tools, accessibility and inclusive communications, and platforms such as Adobe Creative Suite or Mailchimp would be advantageous.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy.
- A highly organised, proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and build effective relationships.
- Digital confidence, a flexible and self-aware working style, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Motivation to learn and develop continuously, alongside a genuine interest in healthcare and improving outcomes through effective communication.
