Working at One Care

About us

One Care is the general practice federation that represents and supports general practice in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG). It is one of the largest GP federations in England, supporting 66 member practice partnerships, which provide care to more than one million patients.

Read more about the support One Care provides to general practice on our About us page.

Hybrid and flexible working

One Care operates a hybrid working approach, enabling employees to work up to three days at home.

The One Care office is in South Bristol at Hawkfield Business Park, which has free parking for cars and bikes, and good public transport links.

Our offices provide an open-plan hot-desking environment, and bookable rooms for virtual and in-person meetings.

We also support flexible working, with flexible start and finish times; annualised hours; compressed hours; job-sharing; or part-time working, any of which can be requested by any employee.

Values

Our One Care values underpin all the work we do supporting our practices.

These values are:

  • Ambition
  • Trust
  • Excellence
  • Resilience
  • Compassion

Each month we ask for nominations for the ‘Values star of the month’ and select one colleague who has particularly demonstrated one or more of these core values in their work. This colleague will receive one half day of annual leave in recognition!

Environment

One Care has signed up to the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) Climate Hub to join the global united national Race to Zero campaign, committed to achieving net-zero emissions no later than 2050. We have an internal ‘green team’ colleagues can join, focused on changing ways of working to minimise our impact on the environment.

Training and development

Each employee’s induction will include a tailored plan to introduce them to all areas of the business, as well as mandatory and role-specific training.

One Care is also dedicated to supporting staff to continue their personal learning and development. Employees are encouraged to talk with their line manager about their aspirations and agree a plan for gaining skills. We offer a generous training budget and up to five paid days for study per year.

People and culture

One Care is a relatively small but varied company, with teams specialising in digital; business intelligence; communication; practice support; transformation; and people. We also employ clinical leads who split their time between One Care and substantive roles in practice.

We are proud to have a friendly, visible, and approachable leadership team who are always happy to chat, whether for guidance or to share ideas and suggest improvements.

Every Tuesday we hold an all staff meeting to keep everyone informed about the business, operations, and general news. For more informal communications, we have an internal newsletter ‘News at One’.

Each year colleagues from different teams gather formally for the all staff away day, and informally through various team challenges, sweepstakes, and socials including:

  • Easter egg hunt
  • Walking challenge
  • Great British Bake-Off sweepstake and bake
  • Summer social
  • Christmas party

New suggestions for team activities are always welcomed and appreciated!

At One Care we are committed to creating and promoting a diverse and inclusive workforce that better reflects the community we are part of. Applications are welcome from all suitably qualified candidates regardless of ethnicity, gender, age, or disability. We particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups.
