Bringing vaccinations closer to the communities who need them most
Our new BNSSG Vaccination Outreach Service has delivered a pilot community clinic in partnership with the Chinese Community Wellbeing Society. The Society supported engagement before and during its Health Check event, while Sirona care & health offered flu, Covid-19 and RSV vaccinations.
The pilot provided an opportunity to test a new approach that brings together the strengths of general practice, community healthcare and trusted community organisations to improve vaccination understanding and uptake.
Led by One Care, in partnership with Sirona and Caafi Health, the new service uses local data and community insight to identify people who face barriers to accessing routine vaccinations.
Our approach is to build trust first, then bring vaccination services closer to people. By working with community organisations and delivering clinics in familiar, accessible settings, we aim to build confidence, remove barriers and reach people who might otherwise miss out. Vaccinations will be given by general practice and Sirona teams.
The service is designed to complement existing vaccination provision, focusing on communities where inequalities in uptake persist rather than duplicating established services. It will initially focus on people experiencing homelessness, people with dementia, and Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities.
Chloe Law, Health and Wellbeing Manager at the Chinese Community Wellbeing Society, said: “Having vaccinations available through convenient drop-in services in trusted community settings can make such a difference in improving engagement and uptake.”
Thank you to the Chinese Community Wellbeing Society, Sirona and everyone involved in making this pilot possible. It is an important first step in our collaborative work to improve vaccination access and reduce health inequalities across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
