New system programme to improve urgent care in BNSSG
One Care is hosting a system-wide Urgent Care Coordination Programme, which builds on scoping work done with partners earlier this year. This programme is exploring opportunities to improve urgent care pathways and develop alternatives to hospital admissions in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG).
The programme will improve interaction between existing urgent care services, alongside exploring any gaps identified. This will enable partners to work together more effectively to deliver integrated, person-centred care.
The programme includes representation from all BNSSG health and social care partners and is aligned with complementary programmes, including the Intermediate Care Transformation programme and the Neighbourhood Health programme.
The Urgent Care Coordination programme is being led by Katrina Boutin, Kathy Ryan and Becs Winterborn, with BNSSG executive sponsorship from Professor Stuart Walker, Hospital Managing Director at Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.

Katrina, Kathy and Becs said: “Improved urgent care co-ordination will strengthen the foundations, fabric, and ‘seams’ of our urgent care system, ensuring more patients receive the right care first time from the right professional, in the right setting, and in the right time-frame.
“In addition to improving the experience for our patients, this work will also enable clinicians to assess patients more effectively, refer them on more easily when needed, and manage risk appropriately. This will strengthen the overall resilience of the healthcare system in BNSSG, enabling our services to respond more effectively to increasing demand.”
