What we do

Community phlebotomy

Overview

For many years, general practice has taken outpatient bloods on behalf of secondary care, taking responsibility for both the phlebotomy but also the interpretation, communication and risk holding associated with these blood results. This programme ensures that results are returned to the clinician who requested the blood, and practices receive payment for the work.

General practice and secondary care, supported by One Care and BNSSG Integrated Care Board, have worked together to establish this new process, putting patient experience and safety at the heart of the programme.

This project sits within the outpatients programme.
