Job purpose:

To bring GP clinical leaders together and inform BNSSG’s community mental health programme transformation. The post should help to align the community mental health programme with general practice priorities and those of the BNSSG system, through the co-ordination of clinical leadership input into transformational projects which improve and develop Community Mental Health support for patients.

 Role and Responsibilities:


  • Enable general practice to feed into the design, development and mobilisation stages of a model of care that delivers the outcomes of the Community Mental Health programme’s objectives, reduces inequalities across the system and responds to local needs
  • Lead the Community Mental Health GPCB steering group who will feed into the work, have oversight of general practice processes and support clinical assurance – made up of representatives across the six GP localities and those with specialist interest in this workstream
  • Implement a GP programme plan of general practice Community Mental Health priorities and input which will support the programme objectives’ implementation plan
  • Provide a single contact point for other BNSSG providers, the system workstream programme team and general practice to support the co-ordination of GP leadership and input in to the community mental health programme
  • Support GPCB to ensure sufficient resource available to general practice to deliver the programme plan
  • Provide regular updates and communication on the Community Mental Health programme to key General Practice stakeholders and governance groups.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Chair the GPCB Community Mental Health Committee.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Work with community mental health programme management team and workstream leads (ICB, Trusts) to develop and implement shared objectives.
  • Work with wider system clinical leads to develop joint ways of working and provide clinical assurance across the programme.
  • Ensure the work of the Committee is linked with the work of Locality Partnerships across BNSSG, identifying commonalities and avoiding duplication where possible
  • Scope and define projects and initiatives in support of the programme plan which will be overseen by the steering group, including providing information, analytical advice and allocating clinical expertise as needed to community mental health projects.
  • Contribute to business plans, dashboards, risk logs and other programme documentation to support the achievement of identified workstream and programme outcomes.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning of the steering group board, identifying interdependencies across projects/functions, potential impacts on wider organisation, resource requirements and building in contingency and adjustments as necessary
  • Contribute to development of policies and procedures for general practice to support the work of the workstream board.
